The Rocky Mountain races are set in the beautiful town of Canmore, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. They offer participants an opportunity to run alongside the Bow River, through downtown Canmore, and in the enchanting woodlands of Bow Valley. The races are suitable for runners of all levels, with the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K courses featuring a mix of asphalt and high-quality gravel paths.
Half Marathon
The Half Marathon course unfolds a beautiful route through woodlands, alongside mountain streams, and through a historic mine site, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountain scenery. The track features several short climbs and winding paths with a gradual incline and decline of roughly 45m in the latter half. The Half Marathon is interspersed with six water stations. Walkers participating in the Half Marathon are advised to aim for a finish within three hours due to time restrictions.
10K Race
Starting from the heart of historic Canmore, the 10K loop brings runners through town and along the Bow River, providing spectacular views of Ha Ling Peak and the Three Sisters. The 10K course is a mix of asphalt and high-quality gravel trail, offering a flat terrain with no significant changes in elevation, which makes it suitable for both beginners and experienced runners. There are three water stations available for runners on this course.
5K Race
The 5K race, designed to accommodate all running levels, offers a fast, fun course set in the middle of beautiful Canmore. The course is flat with no significant changes in elevation, providing a light and enjoyable running experience.
Kids Race
This year, a new Kids Race has been introduced for ages 3-5, and 6-8, which is free to enter. This is a testament to the event's commitment to fostering a family-friendly environment.
Community and Charitable Focus
The Rocky Mountain races have maintained their community feel over the years, even as they have grown significantly since their inaugural year. The 2023 event continues this tradition with a partnership with Embrace International Foundation, a Canmore-based non-profit dedicated to helping children living with disabilities.
Participants' Perks
All runners participating in any race distance will receive a beautiful, locally handcrafted wooden finisher medal. Additionally, all registrants will receive a Canmore Rocky Mountain Half Marathon Buff in their race package.
